For the past ten years, the name of Giuliano Ruffini has been mentioned in connection with investigations into an alleged large-scale trafficking of artworks. If the allegations were proven true, the case may have resulted in losses amounting to hundreds of millions of euros and prestigious museums and institutions would have been duped. The case, which was brought before the courts in 2013, has still not been resolved, and no guilt has been definitively established to date.
Set in Paris, Rome, London, New York and Madrid, our series sheds a light on one of the art world’s greatest mysteries, through an investigation behind the scenes of an elegant, hushed world, populated by colorful characters.
A great seducer with as many admirers as enemies, is Ruffini the greatest forger the art world has ever known, a genius collector, or the expiatory victim of an entire system designed to drive up prices? How could such a swindle even be possible?”
Why we like it:
One of the biggest mysteries in the art world, involving the works of great masters, told by an odd bunch of colourful characters, from experts to alleged con artists, all driven by the same passion, and exposing the challenges of an industry which fails to rely on hard truths.
